New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign Provides Free Tree Seedlings for pick-up in South River

SOUTH RIVER, N.J. – Free tree seedlings will be available to New Jersey residents at two locations in the borough as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. This program helps communities replace trees damaged or destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. The seedling distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at: ● South River Community Garden, 39 Causeway Street, and ● South River Human Resources Building, 55 Reid Street. Residents will be able to pick up five tree seedlings on a first come, first served basis.  Each resident also will receive instructions on how to store, care for, and plant the seedlings as well as guidelines for choosing the right place on a property to plant a tree while keeping in mind the tree’s full-grown size in the future. Residents should plant the seedlings within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out.
